The Masque, Central’s Drama Club, generally presents two stage productions in a school year: one in the fall and one in the spring. Membership and participation is open to the entire student body through announced auditions; and although natural talent and previous experience are assets, they are by no means requirements. The Masque is looking for interested, cooperative individuals who are willing to spend approximately 8 weeks of rehearsal. Practices are held after school or in the early evening, as well as on weekends. It is time consuming, highly demanding labor, but the pains are well rewarded. The Masque performs for the general public and has, through the years, attained a very favorable, widespread reputation. So if you like the smell of greasepaint and the roar of the crowd, then the Masque is your club.
The work of the Stage Crew is literally done behind the scenes. Almost anything concerned with the use of the auditorium and stage involves the Stage Crew. More specifically, the Stage Crew has the responsibility for maintaining the stage and stage equipment in good working order. Secondly, the stage crew is responsible for constructing and maintaining the production sets as well as implementing such technical requirements as lighting, sound, and special effects. While technical know-how and muscle are important assets for potential members, they are not necessary. More important and valuable than these are such attitudes as a willingness to work hard, an ability to take direction, and a spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
