  • Central Catholic Masque wins 3 Kelly Awards

    On Saturday, May 24, 2008 Central Masque brought home three Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater including Best Musical (Budget Level II) for the their performance of Disney's Beauty & the Beast.

    Michael Campayno won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Gaston. The show also won the award for Best Choreography.

  • CCHS Masque receives 11 Kelly Award Nominations

    Central Catholic/Oakland Catholic students have been recognized for all their hard work with this year's spring musical production of Disney's Beauty & the Beast. The cast and crew have been nomintated for 11 Gene Kelly Awards. Winners will be announced at the Gene Kelly Awards showcase on Saturday, May 24, 2008. Masque has been nominated for the following:

  • Freshman Selected as Carson Scholar

    Brian Horner '11 was chosen as a 2008 Carson Scholar. Only 3400 students across the country are selected each year. Brian will be honored at the Pittsburgh Carson Scholars Fund’s 4th Annual Awards Banquet on Sunday, May 4, 2008.

  • Sophomore to represent region in Intn'l Science Fair

    Michael Williams '10 will compete in an international science and engineering fair in Atlanta, May 11th—16th. Michael is one of only three students representing the Pittsburgh Region.

  • Junior Parent Night

    Junior Parent Night will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 in the McGonigle Theater (7:00 – 9:00 PM). A letter of invitation has been mailed to all Junior parents. Please RSVP by Friday, April 4th.

  • MAPS Blood Drive

    On Monday, April 14, 2008, MAPS will sponsor a Blood Drive in the Central Catholic Gym from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Only Juniors and Seniors over 16 years of age may donate. Written parental permission required by Thursday, April 11 to the Guidance Department.

  • FINANCIAL AID EVENING

    The annual financial aid informational meeting for junior and senior parents will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in McGonigle Theater. Presented by Betty Davis, Regional Director of Sallie Mae and Stephanie Hendershot, Director of Financial Aid at Robert Morris University. Letters were mailed to parents of juniors and seniors. RSVP requested to the Guidance Department by Tuesday morning, March 4th.

    Congratulations to the team of Kevin Blatz, Joe Papa, Mike Kenstowicz and Walt Holohan for their outstanding 2nd place finish in the World Affairs Council Academic World Quest Competition which included 42 teams.

    Central’s Science Team captured 19 Firsts and 8 Seconds at the Regional Competition .Congratulations to the following students who received PJAS Regional Firsts:

  • St. John Neumann Gala

    Our Lady of the Angels Parish is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Gala to benefit St. John Neumann Regional Catholic Elementary School on February 23rd, 2008 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. The theme this year will be “An Evening on the Nile”. The evening includes dinner catered by The Common Plea, live entertainment, silent and live auctions, and the drawing of a $10,000 Give A-Way.   • Senior Honored for Essay on Asia

    Congratulations to senior Frank Cullo, who was recently awarded second place in the first annual Chu Financial Management Corporation scholarly essay competition. The contest was created to raise local awareness of Asia. Frank's paper, "Reconciliation, Tolerance and Unity" will be recognized at an awards ceremony in February.

  • Sophomore inducted to National Achievement Society

    Congratulations to sophomore William Burgess, who was inducted to the NAS on October 4, 2007 in a ceremony at Heinz Chapel. The NAS is sponsored by the National Urban League and the Congress of National Black Churches. It's purpose is to foster a supportive peer culture, which promotes achievement among African-American youth. Membership into NAS is determined by a rigorous eligibility standard.

  • Chamber Singers Invited to Participate in River City Brass Band Concert

    The Central Catholic & Oakland Catholic Chamber Singers have been invited to participate in the River City Brass Band's Christmas Concert Season. The singers will perform on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Carson Middle School in McCandless Township. The event will allow for the students to work with a professional ensemble and conductor. The concert begins at 8:00 PM.

  • Central Catholic Pilgrimage to Rome, Assisi & Pompeii

    Central Catholic is sponsoring a pilgrimage to Rome, Assisi and Pompeii this June 3 -12.  We will at the Casa La Salle, the Rome Headquarters of the Christian Brothers and visit the religious and historical sites of Rome, the Vatican, Assisi and the ruins of Pompeii.  A highlight of the trip will be an audience with Pope Benedict XVI.

  • Student and Parents:  consider nominating your favorite teacher for an award.

    The Golden Apple awards have been established by the Diocese to honor outstanding teachers who have devoted their lives to teaching in Catholic schools.  

    Teachers may be nominated by another teacher, a parent, or a student.   The nomination form is available in Office A and must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation explaining why you feel this teacher deserves an award.    Nominations should be returned to Office A.

    The Clifford E. Brown Library was officially unveiled on Sunday, September 9, 2007. The event was highlighted by a blessing and dedication ceremony at the school.   • Central Senior, Alumnus Qualify for Olympic Trials

    Senior swimmer Doug Dietrich and 2004 graduate Patrick Mellors have qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials. Doug and Patrick are featured in this Pittsburgh Post Gazette article.

  • Senior receives Spirit of Faith Award

    Central Catholic senior Michael Ruggiero was awarded the Spirit of Faith Award for his outstanding sportsmanship and Christian Leadership in co-ed softball this summer. The award was presented at the CYM All-Star Mass on July 29th. Michael is a member of St. Sylvester Parish in Brentwood.

  • PA BUDGET ’07 – BIG WIN FOR EITC

    After many days of negotiating and number crunching, the EITC Program received a $16 million increase  in this year’s Pennsylvania State Budget!!  This is the largest increase allotted to the EITC Program since its enactment in 2001 and brings the total credits to more than double what was available that first year.  Tax credits will be increased from $59 million to $75 million, with $44,666,667 dedicated to scholarships, $22,333,333 dedicated to innovative educational programs in public schools and $8,000,000 dedicated to pre-Kindergarten scholarships.  What does that mean?  More money will be given to you to use in your scholarship programs and education programs!!
