  • » Take Action Now
  •
  •    Say "No" to Pre-K Counts. Governor Rendell is proposing to spend millions of tax dollars on his "Pre-K Counts" initiative to provide pre-kindergarten education for four-year-olds. But his proposal unfairly discriminates against existing religious pre-K programs.

His proposal interferes with religious freedom; gives aid only to families lucky enough to live in a certain geographic locations; discounts the choice for parents; and costs more!

There are better options for helping families get their children ready for kindergarten - a pre-K grants program or the existing, highly successful pre-K Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.

Contact your legislators and ask them to vote "no" to the governor's unfair "Pre-K Counts" proposal and "yes" to pre-K grants and more funding for pre-K EITC.

  • » "Row On for Brendan"
  •    To the Central family, there is much more to WQED’s OnQ show this Thursday than simply a special evening of “Irish Night” programming.

Last year, Tony-nominated choreographer Donald Byrd was in Pittsburgh sitting in his hotel room and he happened to watch the “Row On for Brendan” story on OnQ. It so moved and inspired him that he has returned to Pittsburgh to create a new work with Pittsburgh’s premiere dance Company, Dance Alloy Theater based on OnQ's Emmy-winning report "Row On For Brendan" - which also airs on this episode on Thursday at 7:30 and midnight; and again on Friday, March 9th at 12:30 PM. Byrd's "The Interrupted Narrative" based on “Row On For Brendan” is one of three works to be performed in Dance Alloy Theater's "Fragile," an evening of work which speaks to the tenuousness of life and the need for human connection.

  • » SCHOOL CHOICE DAY
  •
  •    School Choice Day in Pennsylvania is Friday, September 29, 2006. School Choice is public policy, which would allow parents to receive some of their own tax money to attend the school of their choice. This policy is not only fair and just; it will improve education for all children by instilling competition and accountability into all schools.
  •
  •    On this day, you are also asked to call, write, fax or visit your local state representative and state senator and tell them to vote for increased tax credits and school choice.
  •
  •    School Choice Day will hopefully focus attention on this critical issue and provide citizens with enough information to make the right decision to actively support school choice.

  • This year Central Catholic Masque is looking forward to a more exciting year than usual. First, we are just settling into the newly renovated McGonigle Theater. This facility has just been extensively renovated to take Central Catholic to the cutting edge of technical capability. To kick-off our new season and this wonderful facility we will be performing the musical GODSPELL. As we all know the teachable moments are often few and far between. Taking some of the simplest Bible texts and trying to make them relevant and meaningful to today’s youth can be challenging. The past several weeks we have heard in church, many of the lessons and parables taken from Matthew’s Gospels. In fact the title of the show GODSPELL is the old English word for “gospel” or “good tale”. We have study guides available and will mail them out as soon as we receive your ticket orders and this will include a listing of all the Gospel readings for the past several months and reference them to our production so your students can gain the maximum educational benefit from the show as well as a wonderful theater experience. Our performances will be December 1, 2, and 3 at 7:30 and a 2:00 matinee on Sunday December 4. All seats are reserved for these performances and are $ 7.00. There is a special performance on Wednesday, November 30 at 10:00 for school students. Tickets for this special performance are only $ 5.00 each. We encourage you to order your tickets as soon as possible since the seating for all performances is limited. Call 412.208.3404 and a staff member will contact you to confirm your reservations and arrange for payment.
  •
  • On Sunday December 4, our music parents association, CCMPA, will be hosting a spaghetti dinner from Noon to 6:00 pm at the school. You will be able to enjoy this wonderful meal either before or after the performance. Tickets for the spaghetti dinner are $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for children under 10, and free for children under 2. Reservations for GODSPELL and the spaghetti dinner can be made after November 1 by phoning 412. 208.3404. A staff member will contact you to confirm your reservations and arrange for payment.
